Hand-colored woodcut depicting the damage in Istanbul from the earthquake on May 10, 1556. The dome of Hagia Sophia and other buildings were badly damaged, and there were many casualties. The earthquake was preceeded by the appearance of a comet, sighted on March 5, 1556, and observed for 12 days.
